Moose-AKa's is an independantly owned and operated Eastern European Restaurant. Owner Michael-Jared Waring and Manager Maja began their journey as seasonal employees in 2011 and 2009 respectively. In 2015 they opened a food truck in Healy, just 10 miles north of the town of Denali, serving dinner and the late night bar crowd. They quickly gained the support of the locals and seasonal employees. Within 2 years of being open the opportunity to move into a brick a mortar restaurant presented itself. Michael made a leap of faith to follow his dream of owning the only restaurant in the area offering a different fare than the typical Steak, Seafood, Pizza, and Burgers. In April of 2017 they began remodeling, with their own hands, what was once a fish and chips restaurant into an authentic Balkan style tavern adorned with antiques collected in Yugoslavia. In November 2017 FOODANDWINE.COM wrote an article in which they named Moose-AKa's the coziest restaurant in Alaska. In 2020 Yelp named Moose-AKa's the #28 restaurant in the nation. In 2021 TripAdvisor placed Moose-AKa's in the top 1% of restaurants in the world and #20 in the U.S. In 2022 TripAdvisor named us the #7 Casual Dining restaurant in the U.S.A
